Isolation is an issue for
many Calgary seniors. Many are alone. No family.
No one to ask "How are you today?" The Telephone Reassurance program prevents situations where an elderly woman falls in her bathtub and is
not found for three days.
The Telephone Reassurance program enables
seniors to have contact with their community
and reassures them that they're not alone. This program uses volunteers who make daily phone calls at pre-arranged
times to check on the well-being of the senior. Seniors and volunteers are
matched so that similar interests are shared. Daily contact decreases the
risk, as well as the anxiety associated with living alone.
If you or someone you
know would benefit from the Telephone Reassurance
program, or would like to volunteer,
please call Calgary Seniors' Resource
Society at 266-6200.
